The presentation is briefly going to deal with the challenges related to reading skills of Danish children. Emphasis will be put on strategies to support reading and presentation of a number of national library programmes: a Bookstart programme for children up to three years and a kindergarten library programme mainly for children between three and six years. For school children there is a Joy of reading campaign – including national quizzes and contests as well as a children’s book award based on the children’s own nomination. In addition there are also homework cafés and a new initiative offering online support to homework. The presentation will be illustrated by examples of good practice.
